RUSSIAN CIRCLES IN CONCERT:
If the apocalypse is indeed coming, instrumental post-rock outfit Russian Circles is the perfect group to soundtrack its arrival. The trio's entrancingly heavy sound and textured compositions conjure up images of primordial ooze and continental drift, treating listeners to an immersive sonic experience that transcends time and place. The searing guitars and bombastic drums of tracks like "Deficit" and "Enter" make the moments of softness in the band's music all the more beautiful, and it's this interplay of heavy and light elements that gives their live shows such dynamic energy. Ticket buyers looking for a mind-blowing concert experience look no further: Russian Circles's unforgettable sets on tour bear all the markings of an earth-shattering event.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Chicago-based instrumental rock group Russian Circles was formed in 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan, bassist Colin DeKuiper, and drummer Dave Turncrantz. The trio released a self-titled EP that same year, and in 2006 they released their debut full-length album Enter to positive reviews. Turncrantz left the band shortly after the album's release and was replaced by drummer Brian Cook, who made his recording debut with Russian Circles on their 2008 sophomore album Station. In 2009 the new lineup hit the road on tour, performing at summer festivals like Bonnaroo before releasing their third album Geneva in the fall to a No. 24 position on Billboard's Heatseekers chart -- an impressive feat for an experimental group. Since then they've released two more critically acclaimed albums, toured the world with bands like Deafheaven and Chelsea Wolfe, and earned a reputation as a must-see live act with their heavy-hitting live shows.
Great venue, location was excellent and Russian circles was everything we expected and more.
Been to Archer once, but first time at Arrow. Loved it. Great room. Not a bad spot to see stage. Spacious yet feels small. Affordable drinks and snacks. Getting great talent in that room, I’m noticing. Blackwater Holylight was a great tone setter. Was so happy they played their Radiohead cover along with some newer melodic doomy songs. Russian Circles was incredible the way they mixed ambience with heaviness. Such a great night of live music.
Three amazing musicians who have been playing together for a long time. It shows. They are like a heavy machine that takes every step in perfect synchrony. The gear and the sound mix sounded impeccable. Best show I've seen all year.
Killer show! Sound was excellent and Russian Circles was fantastic! It's early but this show might well wind up being the best concert I see this year. The Fillmore is such a great venue with great staff also.
great show these dudes really do it loud and tight.
1st time seeing Russian circles. An unforgettable experience. I was mesmerized by their unique style of instrumental metal/ looping guitar rhythms/deep bass tones & pulsating drums. I had Headbang neck for days! Sold out show. Great energy at the Fillmore. Staff were helpful as I have a health condition and needed to sit. My view was from the balcony just above the stage. Sounded great, dramatic lighting, and a killer set! I’ve seen hundreds of concerts in my life, but this one is definitely one for remembrance.
Russian Circles live is a life experience, and any fan of live music should see this band. They are in their prime right now and they are probably the best live band you may ever see.
Russian Circles is one of those bands that must be seen live. Between the music and the light show, just amazing. It difficult to play with lights in your eyes and these guys made it look simple.
The Regent Theatre was a killer venue. Friendly staff and reasonable bar prices for DTLA. Amazing sound! Bands crushed it. Seen RC 5 times in 14 years and this was my favorite show!
I originally bought tickets that said upper balcony row jj, when I arrived at venue it was standing general admission floor only, show was incredible
