MORE ABOUT PETE & BAS

Who are we talking about when we talk about Pete & Bas? Well, not only the strangest addition to the British grime scene in recent times, but practically to all music in general. They are the surreal embodiment of the recurring joke about the disconnect between the elderly and the latest musical trends. Their music is fresh, but they don't act hypocritically or mockingly at all; they are simply very good grime artists, even if at first glance their tour seems like a bad (or good) joke.

They released their first single in 2017, “Shut Ya Mouth.” They recorded the song after Pete discovered his love for hip hop when his granddaughter was listening to rap on the car radio and he thought it sounded good. He mentioned it to Bas, and they decided it would be fun to post it on YouTube. It was an immediate hit and went viral, so they kept creating new music, achieving the most improbable rise in the world of British drill.

When you think of grime pioneers, names like Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Skepta, or even D Double E probably come to mind, but Pete & Bas are giving the term a whole new meaning. They're almost twice the age of artists like Dizzee and Kano, and they deliver lyrics just as impactful and skillful as any top rapper.
