ARA MALIKIAN CONCERTS

Ara Malikian presents his new tour, ‘Intruso,’ in Spain, a deeply personal journey that begins with the anguish of not fitting in anywhere and culminates in embracing the richness of his multicultural identity, finding his home throughout the world through art and music.

MORE ABOUT ARA MALIKIAN

Born in Beirut in 1968 to Armenian parents, Malikian grew up during the Lebanese Civil War, finding refuge and hope in the violin while practicing in basements and air-raid shelters. His extraordinary talent led him to give his first major concert at just 12 years old and, at 14, to receive a German government scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, later completing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

In Lebanon, I wasn't considered "Lebanese" enough because I was of Armenian descent; Armenians didn't consider me "Armenian" enough because I was born in Lebanon. When I settled in Europe, I wasn't considered "European" because I wasn't born in Europe. It took me years to be at peace with who I am, to accept being the eternal "Intruso" (Outsider)", and to embrace the richness of my multicultural identity.

Thanks to my status as an "intruso," I've discovered that the whole world is my home. Art, music, and culture belong to me, regardless of my origin or birthplace. My home is in my body and soul, an infinite space where identity transforms and music becomes a universal language.
