Game Community & Growth Manager
Location: Dallas preferred, remote candidates considered
This role may be based in our Dallas studio or performed remotely, depending on the candidate’s location, experience, and ability to collaborate consistently with our team. Some availability outside standard working hours and occasional travel may be needed to support community events.
About Devhouse
Devhouse is a game development studio based in Dallas, Texas. We work across a wide range of game projects, platforms, and genres, bringing together design, art, engineering, production, and QA to solve problems as one team.
We’re looking for a Game Community & Growth Manager to build an active audience around a game currently in development while also supporting Devhouse’s broader social presence.
This is not a role focused solely on keeping a content calendar full. The right person will develop a clear understanding of our audiences, create reasons for people to participate, and continually evaluate what is actually driving growth. They’ll take ownership of outcomes such as Steam wishlists, active Discord members, Patreon support, social engagement, and event attendance.
About the Role
As our Game Community & Growth Manager, your primary responsibility will be growing and engaging the audience for one of our original games. You’ll develop and execute strategies across Steam, Discord, Patreon, social media, live events, playtests, and other relevant channels.
You’ll work closely with the development team to uncover stories, progress, and behind-the-scenes moments worth sharing. You’ll turn those opportunities into content, conversations, events, and campaigns that help people discover the game and give existing community members a reason to stay involved.
You’ll also support Devhouse’s company-wide social media and community-building efforts. This may include showcasing our team, sharing studio news, promoting our work, and organizing internal or public-facing events.
Creating a post or scheduling an event is only the beginning. You’ll be expected to promote each initiative, build participation, evaluate its performance, and adjust your approach based on what you learn.
A major part of this role will be creating compelling devlogs and video content. You’ll work closely with the development team to identify interesting stories, capture gameplay and behind-the-scenes footage, and edit that material into content that earns attention and keeps the community invested in the game’s progress.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute an audience-growth strategy for a game currently in development.
- Grow Steam wishlists through organic campaigns, events, playtests, announcements, partnerships, and platform opportunities.
- Build an active Discord community where members regularly participate rather than simply increasing the server’s total membership.
- Develop Patreon programming that gives supporters clear value and encourages conversion and retention.
- Plan social content across relevant platforms, with a clear purpose and audience for each channel.
- Plan, capture, edit, and publish recurring devlogs that turn ongoing development into engaging stories.
- Capture high-quality gameplay footage and identify moments that clearly communicate what makes the game interesting.
- Create short-form and long-form video content tailored to platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Discord.
- Develop strong hooks, pacing, titles, thumbnails, and calls to action that encourage viewers to follow, wishlist, join, or support the game.
- Interview or collaborate with developers to make technical and creative progress accessible to a broader audience.
- Repurpose larger development updates into platform-specific clips, posts, GIFs, and community conversations.
- Evaluate watch time, retention, click-throughs, conversions, and audience response to continually improve the content.
- Organize and host online and in-person events such as community nights, livestreams, playtests, developer Q&As, tournaments, and studio events.
- Develop a promotion plan for each event, including audience targeting, messaging, reminders, and follow-up.
- Track RSVPs, attendance, participation, and retention to understand why events succeed or struggle.
- Actively participate in community conversations, respond to players, and help create a welcoming environment.
- Identify creators, communities, partners, and other opportunities that could introduce the game to new audiences.
- Gather community feedback and communicate useful insights back to the development team.
- Support Devhouse’s broader social media presence by sharing company news, team stories, project highlights, and industry perspectives.
- Establish meaningful performance goals and regularly report what is working, what is not, and what should change.
- Experiment with new formats and channels while focusing time and resources on the efforts that produce meaningful results.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated experience growing and engaging an audience, with specific examples of measurable results.
- A strong understanding of gaming communities and the ways players discover, follow, and support games in development.
- Experience managing platforms such as Steam, Discord, Patreon, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Reddit, or similar communities.
- Experience planning, promoting, and hosting online or in-person events.
- Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- The confidence and personality to host livestreams, community conversations, and events.
- An understanding of the difference between follower counts and meaningful audience engagement.
- The ability to use performance data to evaluate ideas and adjust strategy.
- Strong organization and the ability to maintain momentum across multiple channels and initiatives.
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Demonstrated experience capturing and editing engaging video content.
- Strong editorial judgment and an understanding of what makes development footage interesting to players.
- The ability to find a clear story or hook within an ongoing development process.
- Experience creating both short-form social videos and longer-form content.
- Proficiency with video editing software such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.
- A portfolio demonstrating video editing, content creation, or audience-focused storytelling.
Experience with Steamworks, Discord community tools, Patreon, graphic design, email marketing, influencer outreach, or analytics platforms is a plus.
You’ll Be a Great Fit If You
- Think beyond posting and focus on what will give people a reason to care, participate, and return.
- Treat wishlists, active members, event attendance, and supporter retention as outcomes you can influence.
- Are comfortable starting conversations instead of waiting for a community to engage first.
- Can turn development progress into stories that are understandable and interesting to players.
- Promote events with the same care you put into planning and hosting them.
- Look at low attendance or engagement as a problem to investigate and improve.
- Experiment with new ideas, measure the response, and recalibrate quickly.
- Build genuine relationships with community members rather than treating them as marketing numbers.
- Can balance the voice of an individual game with the broader identity of the studio.
- Communicate directly and collaborate comfortably with developers across different disciplines.
How We Work
Our team values people who figure things out, focus on work that moves the project forward, and approach challenges with possible solutions. We believe imperfect action is better than perfect inaction, and we learn by taking thoughtful risks and recalibrating.
We also value T-shaped professionals who understand the broader development process while continuing to deepen their specialty. Most importantly, we operate with a co-op mindset: open communication, shared knowledge, mutual support, and no office politics.
