Ad personalization helps you create more relevant advertising experiences for LinkedIn members. By tailoring ad content to information from a member's LinkedIn profile, you can make your messaging more relevant to the audience you are trying to reach.
LinkedIn supports ad personalization through macros. During ad creation, you can insert macros that automatically populate with information from a member's profile, such as their first name, company name, job title, or industry. When the ad is served, the macro is replaced with the corresponding profile information for that member. Each member sees only their own personalized information. Profile information used for ad personalization isn't displayed to other members.
Personalization is available for the following ad formats:
- Sponsored Messaging - Conversation and message ads
- Dynamic Ads - Spotlight, follower, and job ads
- Sponsored Content - Single image and video ads

When you create a Sponsored Content ad set in Campaign Manager, you can select ads from your existing content including: member posts approved for thought leader ads, your LinkedIn Page posts, and ads previously created in Campaign Manager. The posts or ads available as you browse your existing content depend on the objective and ad format you selected for your campaign and ad set.

Connect a marketing partner with Campaign Manager to create third-party audience segments with Matched Audiences. You can select from your third-party audiences when defining an ad set's audience.
When you integrate an audience from a marketing partner with your ad account, the data you select from the partner platform will be matched with LinkedIn member accounts to create an audience segment.
When setting up a marketing partner integration, keep in mind:
- Depending on the size of your list and the marketing partner, it can take up to a week for your audience to fully process and be ready to use in an ad set. The average time is 48 hours or less. If your list is large, the list may be sent over in portions.
- To launch an ad set, your audience size must be at least 300 member accounts.

When Sponsored Messaging ads are created, advertisers can select the sender that appears to the members of their target audience. Members will be able to click on the sender's name to see information about the company who paid for the ad and partnered with the sender. The sender of a Sponsored Message ad can be changed by adding additional senders to the ad account. Different senders allow for increased personalization and message relevance.
