8 lives. 1 hero. 26.2 miles. Team LiveOnNY is taking on the marathon running for something far bigger than the finish line. One single organ donor can save up to eight lives—and every mile our runners conquer honors that extraordinary legacy. Our team is hitting the pavement across the five boroughs to raise critical awareness and funds for the thousands of New Yorkers currently waiting for a life-saving transplant. Whether you contribute $8, $88, or cheer them on along the course, every gift fuels our mission to bring hope and second chances to our neighbors. An 11-year-old girl stood on a step stool and asked people to say “yes” to organ donation. Years later, Lauren Shields is still changing lives. It was incredibly meaningful to join Lauren’s family, friends, and supporters at Rockland Lake State Park to announce an effort to dedicate the Nature Center in her honor. The day was especially poignant because it marked the anniversary of Lauren’s Law's signing. Working alongside Lauren and her family on that law remains one of the great honors of my career. Listening to her mother, Jeanne Shields, and others who knew Lauren best reminded me of something powerful: you don’t have to live a long life to leave a lasting legacy! Lauren showed what can happen when one person with courage, determination, and a mission bigger than themselves—decides to act. Her legacy lives on every time someone says “yes” to organ donation! I can’t think of a more fitting tribute than a place where future generations can learn, explore, and discover the story of a remarkable young woman who proved that one voice really can make a difference. Thank you to everyone working to keep Lauren’s legacy alive, and thank you, Senator Bill WeberBill Weber, for introducing this legislation! #LaurensLaw #OrganDonation #RocklandCounty #Legacy #Community #liveOnNY #LaurenShields

I joined community leaders at the Mexican Consulate in New York for “Binational Health Week”, representing LiveOnNY in conversations about how to better inform our communities and connect families with health resources. A special thank-you to the Mexican Consul for Community Affairs Felix Santana and Sofia D’Acosta for always opening the doors to LiveOnNY and providing a space where we can regularly educate our community and share life saving information about organ donation.

LiveOnNY was represented by Iliana and Andrew at The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State (The NPA) NP26 Annual Conference in Niagara Falls. As frontline healthcare leaders, nurse practitioners are vital advocates throughout the donation continuum—ensuring timely clinical referrals, maintaining donor viability, and supporting grieving families with dignity. Throughout the conference, our team engaged with advanced practice providers from across New York State to share updated clinical protocols, provide educational materials, and explore new collaborative opportunities within local health systems. We extend our sincere thanks to the NPA NYS leadership and attendees for their continued partnership in saving and enhancing lives. LiveOnNY joined Jeanne Shields across the Hudson Valley to express gratitude to three local DMV New York Department Of Motor Vehicles teams where her daughter, Lauren Shields, dedicated years to monthly tabling and public education: Orange County DMV (with Kelly La Rue Eskew) Peekskill DMV Putnam County DMV (with Mike Bartolotti) Our DMV partners are vital gateways for the New York State Registry. The staff at these branches have built a deep bond with our mission—attending Lauren’s wake and supporting The Lauren Shields Donate Life Foundation. We shared breakfast and treats to thank these front-line professionals who facilitate life-saving commitments every day. One year ago today, the LiveOnNY community was forever moved by the generosity of the Samuel family. Following the tragic loss of 13-year-old Sanjay Samuel of Queens, NY, his grieving family made the courageous decision to give the gift of life. Through the donation of seven organs, Sanjay saved the lives of five individuals awaiting transplants across New York, Ohio, and the District of Columbia. His heart went on to save a peer of his own age, his liver offered a second chance to a 15-year-old, and his lungs, pancreas, and kidneys saved three adults in their 50s. “LiveOnNY is humbled and honored to be the stewards of these precious gifts of life so that Sanjay and others may live on,” shared Leonard Achan RN, MA, ANP, President & CEO of LiveOnNY. Today, we pause to remember Sanjay’s vibrant spirit and honor the family whose selfless decision transformed an unfathomable tragedy into renewed life for five families. Our thoughts remain steadfastly with his loved ones. #OrganDonation #HealthcareLeadership #LiveOnNY #InMemoriam #TransplantCommunity

It was a pleasure to meet with the newly appointed Colombian Consul in New York Dr. Camilo Louis to share LiveOnNY’s mission of saving lives through organ and tissue donation. We discussed the importance of education within the Colombian community, answering questions, addressing myths, and encouraging family conversations about donation. LiveOnNY looks forward to exploring future collaborations to bring this information to more families.

Today is the final day of DMV Appreciation Month, and we want to dedicate it entirely to the dedicated staff across the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Most people see the DMV as a place for permits, renewals, and vehicle registrations. But behind the counter, DMV team members are frontline ambassadors for public health. Over 80% of registered organ and tissue donors in New York made their decision during a DMV transaction. Every time you hand across a form, assist with an application, or prompt someone to make their donor designation, you are helping bridge the gap between someone in critical need and a life-saving transplant. To every clerk, supervisor, and administrator across New York: thank you for your ongoing partnership, compassion, and commitment. Make the choice that saves lives. Check YES at your next DMV visit or register your decision online today: https://registerme.org/ Life. Pass it on. #LiveOnNY #DMVAppreciationMonth #DMVHeroes #DonateLife #OrganDonation #PublicHealth #NewYorkState #PassItOn
